Description

Foley House Inn
Hello & welcome to the Foley House Inn! We are a Bed & Breakfast in Nova Scotia, Canada. Located in the historic village of Maitland, the Inn was built circa 1830 and established 20 years ago as one of the original B&B's in the area. It sits at the heart of Nova Scotia's first Heritage Conservation District and just 5 minutes from the historic Maitland docks - a major centre of "Great Ship" building in North America during the 19th century.

Exploring the area today is to wander among the pristine beaches, forest trails and spectacular sea cliffs of the Glooscap Trail... It is experiencing the power of the Bay of Fundy by rafting the world's highest Tidal Bore... It is spotting bald eagles and ospreys soaring above the Shubenacadie River while walking along the Acadian dykes... It is visiting Maitland's monuments, heritage homes, antique & artisan shops and its unique general store... It is finally coming back to relax in the easy comfort of the Foley House Inn.

We are open from mid-May to Thanksgiving (October 14th), and whether you come for a night or a week, we're sure you will enjoy your stay. We look forward to having you as our guest, and to making your vacation a truly enjoyable & memorable experience. Come and experience our area's diversity first hand!

The town of Maitland (originally call Jean Peters Village) was settled by Jean Pitre in 1750 prior to the Acadian Exodus. Maitland was later settled by the Ulster Scots (Irish) who’s descendants became shipbuilders and formed Maitland into the beautiful town it is today. Some notable residents include William D. Lawrence who was known for building the worlds largest wooden ship, the "WD Lawrence". Lawrence successfully ran as an MLA alongside Joseph Howe both as anti-confederates in 1867. His home still stands as a museum only minutes from the Foley House Inn. Maitland was also the home of Willard Miller a famous Spanish American war hero, one of the famous "Miller Brothers”.
